How can you support accreditation?

UC Merced is currently preparing for its Capacity and Preparatory Review site visit to take place from September 29 to October 1.  This visit is conducted by a team of faculty and administrators from accredited institutions.  For information on how you can support this effort, go to the appropriate section below.

Students

Members of the visiting team may stop you on campus to inquire about your experiences here and to ascertain your awareness of the learning expectations of our institution.  Support UC Merced by familiarizing yourself and letting other students know about:

  • Our institution's learning expectations.  These include the:
    • Student learning outcomes in your course syllabi.
    • Program learning outcomes for your major or minor, available online and in the 2009-10 catalog.
    • Eight Guiding Principles of General Education, available on the College One website and in the catalog.
    • Learning outcomes for your student life activities!
  • The UC Merced mission.  As you review it consider what it means to you to be at a student-centered research university.

Faculty and Staff

If you have the chance to meet with members of the visiting team, either formally or informally, be prepared to represent our institution!

  • Reflect on our "capacity" at UC Merced.  How do you and your program or School:
    • establish policies, procedures, resources and assess their implementation and effectiveness?
    • organize planning and decision making processes?
    • use data to inform planning and decision making processes and to improve them?
    • use data to improve services for students?
    • ensure the goals of your unit are aligned with our institutional mission?
    • communicate learning expectations to students?
    • ensure course and program learning outcomes are aligned with each other and with the Eight Guiding Principles?
    • support student learning and success?
    • assess student learning and success?
    • support our commitment to undergraduate research?
  • Be prepared to answer questions like these from an informed perspective, noting specific accomplishments and remaining challenges as you prepare for our upcoming Educational Effectiveness review.
